Presidents Day Twist

Happy Presidents Day.

We thought it might be fun to feature Merritt Dilts today, as he is the President of the CCS Board of Directors.  Being a good sport, he agreed to share some of his thoughts with you…

I was recently asked how my decision was made to join the CCS Board of Directors; my answer was, “You mean I had a choice?” …smile….

Back when the Bimbo Bakeries Elkhart Plant (then George Weston Bakeries) started up, we were looking for community partners to coordinate Bread and Muffin donations to help support those in the area with the greatest need.  It became quickly clear that CCS was a great choice; not only did CCS have a wonderful giving footprint in the community but they were also about maintaining folks’ dignity and possessed a strong credibility among civic leaders.  During the early months of the start-up, we were still learning here at the Bakery and were making lots of Bread and muffins for give away!  CCS did a great job of handling all those give-aways very timely and could effectively distributed out to other pantries as well.

I was asked a few years later by Dean if I was interested in joining the Board.  Dean was very convincing and I was very willing. It was an easy decision and a natural fit based on my respect for Dean and the Staff and especially with CCS being a faith-based organization that shared God’s message while caring for people and building capabilities in those that could then serve others.

There are such wonderful people working here, both Staff and Volunteers.  If you haven’t visited lately or have never stopped by, you should make a point to do so.  When you do, please feel free to stick around a little while to lend a hand; you’ll quickly see what why so many folks share such positive comments about CCS!

In the Elkhart Bakery we feel that we are very blessed and feel strongly that it is our obligation to give back to our community.  As a company, Grupo Bimbo’s Mission is “To Nourish, Delight and Serve our World” and a key component of our vision is “To strive to be a highly productive and a deeply humane company.”  Groupo Bimbo is recognized around the world as a company that cares greatly for its people and for the communities it serves.

Thank you for everything you do Merritt!
